Kit Stansley I like mood lighting as much as anyone, particularly first thing in the morning when the full blast of light from a watt bulb makes me scream like a vampire at high noon. Regardless, I like to be able to adjust the brightness in a room, and installing a dimmer switch is a pretty easy way to get control over your lighting. If you have CFL bulbs you will need to go with one of the newer varieties, like those from Lutron. Kit Stansley Does that floor look familiar? Power Down Not at the switch—at the breaker. This is always at least a three-trip ordeal for me… down to the basement, flip the breaker, up to test the switch, over and over again. However, it beats sticking your hand into a live circuit any day. I always use a voltage detector before touching any wires. Kit Stansley Step 2:

Close the switch and you short the supply. What “goes on the end” is of course the power feed, a plug for 12v molex or onboard header. The switch should be in the red lead right after the positive side of the source, with the reds of all the LEDS tied together after that; and all the black leads tied together and connected directly to the negative of the source.
All LEDs produced for PCs have a built in current limiting resistor, so they usually can be directly connected to anything between 3 volts and 12 volts. If not then to ohms should be added in series. The same voltage appears at each unit. LEDs should not be connected in series, red of one connected to black of next, and so on. Thus the anode is positive, the cathode Arrow symbol connected to negative. Connected WITH current flow it acts as a short across the supply, and won’t light.
If I wanted more, what would I need to do? I think I know the way I am supposed to connect it, but to make sure I’ll draw out another diagram. Excuse me, but speaking as an electronic technician, what I see on that diagram is that the switch is acting as a dead short! Based on your post I have produced this: How do I distinguish the anode from the cathode on the LEDs?
Wiring a Ceiling Fan and Light
There are two common ways to wire a switched light. The first method shown in both of Eric’s diagrams is to bring both the “Hot” black wire and common or neutral white wire into the switch’s box. The white wire is passed on to the light fixture and the black one is connected to the “in” side of the switch. A black wire is then taken from the “out” side of the switch on up to the other terminal on the light fixture.
If your circuit were wired this way, it would be easy to add an outlet, using Eric’s diagrams. A wire, connected to the other side of the switch and is sent back up to the light’s box where it is connected to the other side of the light fixture.
The electricity flows from the hot wire (black) through the 2-way switch (shown in off position) and then to the light and returns through the neutral wire (white). This is a completed circuit.
Most modern switches have screw terminals on each side and may also have holes in the back to accept the end of the wire. You can easily loosen the screws on the side of the device with a standard screwdriver turning counterclockwise , but you may find getting the wires out of the back of the device tricky. To remove these wires, insert the blade of a small screwdriver into the slot under the hole into which the wire is inserted and push in as you pull the wire loose.
Pushing the blade of the screwdriver into the slot releases the grip on the inserted wire. Here are descriptions of the wires and where they go: The white neutral wire connects to the silver screw, or you place it in the back wire hole on the same side of the device as the silver screw. The black hot wire goes to the brass screw or into the hole in the back of the device on the same side as the brass screw.
This wire is sometimes red.

Before trying to hook up your player, make sure it is plugged in and turns on when you press the “power” button. Usually a small light or welcome message appears when the DVD player is working correctly. There are at three common ways to connect a DVD player, and each needs a different cable to work. Your DVD player should come with all of the appropriate cords, but you need to check which connections your TV accepts as well. The three most common are.

Read the following carefully before attempting installation. It is best to mount the converter upright, not upside-down or side-ways as shown here. The single-phase neutral wire is not required for operation of the converter. Properly ground all electrical equipment. Use a grounding clip to attach the ground wire to the conduit box.
We might pick up some awesome and helpful products, like a strong winch, radio, and huge LED light bar. While shopping for new off-road goodies is exciting, you need to first look at just how much.
Find Pros Configuration Two: Power from the Lights For the second configuration, the power comes from the light to the switch. This is the easiest configuration with which to work. If your box is configured in this way, you will see one black, one white, and one bare wire coming from the box. Follow these simple steps to install your new light switch or look at this diagram: Hook the bare wire to the box and to the switch.
Hook the black wire to the bottom terminal on the switch. Hook the white wire to the top terminal on the switch. Push the switch into the box and secure it with screws at the top and bottom. Turn on the power and test the switch. Return to Top Steps for Wiring a 3-Way Light Switch Installing a 3-way light switch is a much more involved process than installing a single pole light switch. How to Wire a Light Switch
First of all we should connect the ground wires to the box. If the light switch has a ground screw on it usually green and at the bottom of the switch , connect it now. Second twist the two white wires together and screw on a wire nut. It is usually a good idea to put some black electrical tape around the nut to make sure it doesn’t come off.

Contact Author Wiring a 3 Way Switch Wiring a three way light switch is not a particularly difficult task – there are only 3 connections to be made, after all. Making them at the proper place is a little more difficult, but still within the capabilities of most homeowners – that’s where understanding a wiring diagram can be of help. To replace a switch is not difficult at all; simply put the wires back on the new light switch in the same relative position.
The problems arise when a new switch is being added, or the handyman forgets which wire went where. Then it is necessary to understand a little more just how a three way switch works, and perhaps how to read and understand a wiring diagram. There are many possibilities for methods of getting the proper wire to the proper place but in every case the actual wiring has the same effect and uses the same concept – if that effect and concept is known the task becomes much simpler.
This article is designed to explain these things for a better understanding of how to wire a 3 way switch, and wiring diagrams are shown for common wiring methods for these switches. Additional information is available in the article written on how to wire a 4 way switch , with additional wiring diagrams for these switches. How a 3 Way Switch Works The photos below show the back of a 3 way switch. There are 3 screw terminals on the sides of the switch, along with one on the end, and every switch will have the same three terminals.
The small screw terminal on the end is the ground terminal and is usually painted green, although the picture does not show that color well.

The M-series three lever light switch is the single point of control for all the vehicle lighting circuits. It is identical on almost all U. The vehicle dash panel has a pre-cut hole for the switch and holes for the mounting bolts, as you can see in the top photo of a HMMWV dash with the switch installed. The rear of the three lever light switch is set up to receive a large cable connector to tie the switch into the vehicle wiring harness.
The circular, threaded rim on the switch back is notched so the connector can only go in one way.
