Jet location on carburetor 18 Jay Smith on the subject of correctly jetting a motor The plugs should be a “paper bag” color to be the ultimate in correct jetting. I don’t read plugs as there are too many varibles involved, I have had good luck only reading the piston itself. I make a high speed pass and if the hull will allow it without back washing over the splash well kill it clean. Then I roll 5 piston as generally 5 is the hot hole on a Mercury and prone to burn if the mixture is too lean to bottom dead center and look at the piston crown on the intake side that will be the side toward the outside of the block with a bend o lite , the intake side of the piston at the intake port should be wet and look moist about the size of a quarter out toward the middle from the port. If the wettness is over across half of the crown your too rich and can lean down a bit. If it is dry and ashy in color your too lean and you need to richen up in a hurry. Maybe other people have different methods but this has always been the ticket for me. Some rely on pyros , I have found that when a motor is too lean a pyro will be too late in its report and the piston is already smoked a 2. Also if a pyro is “coked” up” it will also read incorrectly.

What is a fuel line restrictor , and where is it supposed to be located? Some and Fuji engine models have a small metal flow restrictor Polaris part number inserted inside the return fuel line, about one inch from the last carburetor. It looks like a brass plug in the return fuel line, and it has a tiny hole driller through the center. The restrictor is used to boost fuel pressure inside the carburetors, and is in addition to the internal flow restriction in the Mikuni SBN carburetor. May have also been used in some or engines.

I do my best to keep them running and looking good, but time, sun, and water invariably take their toll. Last week, when I went to put them on their launches for the summer, I noticed some cracking in the grey vent hoses on the front hood. These hoses seem to be primarily cosmetic, although it appears they may help vent some air from the front of the boat into the engine bay.
But regardless of what they do, the cracks look ugly:

Unfortunately the new design exhaust system on the 09 and later models will prevent that kit from working anymore. The kit has instructions on the back, just make sure you install it as close to the exhaust system as possible and still get a good connection at the hose clamp. The boat will be up on a lift after each use so it will be very difficult to hook up a hose to the flush connector even if I added a quick connect adapter. Instead I’d like to splice in a connection inside the engine compartment.
Has anyone done this on a Challenger ? I’m not sure if it’s a simple as splicing into the hose that’s hooked up to the flush connector and capping that connector off on the outside.

May 06, · My fresh water hookup is in an awkward spot too. I’ve tried the quick connect, but it’s still a pain and the quick connect is sticking out. My solution has been to use the fresh water tank more and keep topping it off, and only use the fresh water hook up on rare occasions.
Step One – Well Preparation Before installing any pump, clear the well of all grit, sand or dirt, and ensure that the water flows clear. Your well drilling company may have already flushed the well for you. Step Two – Place the Pipe in the Well Holding the pipe in place and safely lowering it into the well requires special tools.
Use a scaffolding or derrick above the well casing and a winch to lower the pipe. Lower the assembly into the well, foot valve first, until the top of the pipe is at the top of the well casing. Attach the next section of pipe to the initial pipe and lower the assembly into the well until the top of the pipe is again at the top of the well casing. Repeat this process of attaching pipe and lowering the assembly until the proper operating depth is reached.

This is the typical dual battery install. This is a quick way to wire dual batteries so both don’t become discharged when an appliance is left on or over used. The second battery is isolated from the primary circuit when the engine oil pressure drops, like when you turn the engine off I’ve built this system several times, everyone that has it seems to be happy with it, and I’ve never been stranded with it.
